Yinho Marsella is a passionate leader who lives out a God given vision and call to reach out to Colombia's vulnerable children and youth. Asociacion Cristiana de Deportes (Christian Sports Association) shares the Gospel and carries out wholistic discipleship among vulnerable children and youth through their soccer clubs and sports outreach programs.
Yinho grew up in a disfunctional family context and found order and discipline through his participation in sports. He was rescued as a young man though the saving and transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. His life found purpose and he was infused with a passion for young people, especially the lost and hurting. He saw his passion and skill in sports as a gift from God, to be used to serve and reach out to young people and introduce them to the blessings of being in relationship with Jesus.
Many young people and children in Colombia in both the urban and rural contexts suffer the effects of family disintegration, un employment, displacement, and poverty. The societal forces leading young people in these contexts towards violence, crime, and drugs are prevalent. Traditional forms of sharing the Good News of hope in Christ, and the transformational values of the Kingdom are not transforming these realities.
Yinho and ACD are connecting with the young people of the marginalized sectors of Bogota and 8 other Colombian cities through formation of football clubs. ACD carries out regular clinics and practice sessions that integrate Kingdom values and team building in their times together. Friendships are formed, the Gospel is shared and many young people find hope in Christ and meaning for their lives. ACD disciples the young people and provides serving opportunities off the field among children with educational needs as teachers and tutors. The ministry has grown into a church in Bogota, and through their experiences is connecting with local churches all over the country and training them in this sports ministry strategy.
